According to a door to door survey by former Cllr. Daniel Poulter, many
residents claim to have been attacked on the streets of Southwater in
recent years. Some are afraid to go out after dark. This applies to all
age ranges, in fact one young woman has to be escorted to and from the
train each day. The hours between 11pm and 3am seem to be the worst times
with the majority of crimes taking place.
A petition is in circulation for CCTV cameras to be installed at strategic points
in the area.
Your support is very welcome to help keep our streets safe. Please sign the petition.
Cameras may seem an extreme solution but we have too little police presence in the area, especially at night. The police say their resources are too limited to patrol regularly but they have suggested CCTV as an option.
