Artists and Designers worked alongside Ore Valley Community Workers and Forum members in a series of workshops culminating in a ‘Family Picnic Day’ for local residents. The aim was to encourage and enable people to think creatively about the place and potential of where they live, and to demonstrate how important good design, and the Art of Architecture is to our quality of life and to that of future generations.

The Picnic Event Day held in the Ore Valley Greenspace was a way of exploring ideas raised during the workshops. The installations erected for the event housed and reflected design elements and ideas generated through the workshops.

Other activities were organised for the day to complement the ‘ideal homes’ installation, such as building an experimental temporary shelter, animal habitat workshops, and a graphitti wall. The aim was to engage the local community in seeing the potential of their local green space and how it can be used. This project was a successful pilot for future arts and cultural events involving residents and participants from further afield.
